During the San Diego Comic Convention preview night last month, we were shown the pilots of five TV shows that will premiere in the coming months. Of these, one of them stood head and shoulders above the rest: the chilling, haunting and downright terrifying The Following, which will make its debut sometime in early 2013. My verdict: 3.5 out of five stars.

Almost five days after it ended, my head is still filled with strange, surreal thoughts about SDCC. Was I really there? Did I really see/do all those awesome things? And why do I still wake up at 2am thinking that it’s time to go and queue for a panel? But the San Diego Comic Convention has come and gone, and it’ll be a whole year before SDCC 2013 comes. In the meantime, I’ll have these memories to keep from crying myself to sleep at night.

If there was one key takeaway for devoted fans from this morning’s Community panel, it came from new executive producer Moses Port: “We won’t screw this up.” He and fellow producer David Guarascio stressed that Community, the meta show to beat all meta shows, would remain “weird and wonderful”.

It’s finally here, and it all begins today at Preview Night! But besides all the obvious reasons to be psyched about SDCC, one other reason I’m buzzed is that my name cards for this blog have just arrived.

Nerd Mecca: San Diego Comic Convention

Clearly, the San Diego Comic Convention isn’t the Lazarus Pit, let alone sacred ground. But as far as true believers are concerned, it might as well be. I’m flying to San Diego from San Fran in a few hours for my first pilgrimmage, and already I can feel the buzz and the energy of the place online.
