It’s that time of the year again, when endless lists of the best this and the worst that start circulating round and round the Internets like a dog chasing its tail. So like any ironic, postmodern hipster wannabe, and since this is a geek blog, I shall join the crowd by presenting my six best geek movies of 2012.

Review: Red Dawn

Verdict: Two out of five stars. Essentially the world’s longest argument for gun rights, the Red Dawn remake retains all of the paranoia, jingoism and borderline offensiveness of its predecessor, not to mention some glaring plot holes. Even a stable of hot young stars cannot do much to lift this movie out of the mire. Nevertheless, still watchable in a twisted, mindless way.

STGCC panel: Heroes And Villains

Andy Diggle, Mark Brooks, Andie Tong, Leinil Yu, Gerry Alanguilan and Mark Torres: these were the creators who sat on an STGCC mega-panel called Heroes and Villains, which I moderated on Sunday. It brought together some of the biggest names at the Singapore Toy Game and Comic Convention to talk about how heroes and villains have evolved over the years.
