Iron Man 3 review

Apr 25th, 2013 Featured, On Pop culture incoherentboy 6 min read

Verdict: Four stars out of five. This is a very different Iron Man movie from its predecessors, with some bold and risky moves. There are strong performances all round from Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce. The surprise twist in the middle will surprise and disappoint in equal measure.

Verdict: Two out of five stars. Essentially the world’s longest argument for gun rights, the Red Dawn remake retains all of the paranoia, jingoism and borderline offensiveness of its predecessor, not to mention some glaring plot holes. Even a stable of hot young stars cannot do much to lift this movie out of the mire. Nevertheless, still watchable in a twisted, mindless way.

It brought together some of the biggest names at the Singapore Toy Game and Comic Convention to talk about how heroes and villains have evolved over the years.

Review: The Bourne Legacy

Aug 9th, 2012 Featured, On Pop culture incoherentboy 6 min read

Verdict: Two and a half stars out of five. It seems to be endemic to Hollywood: gather a strong cast, put them in exotic locales with some great special effects and well-choreographed fight/chase scenes, then muck it all up with a middling plot/dialogue/conclusion.
